My thoughts on the current legal market
“The legal industry is relatively recession-proof” – a statement I spotted on another recruiter’s LinkedIn post recently – a very bold statement, I think!
Like many other industries, the legal industry has been badly affected by lockdown and there has been a number of unfortunate job losses, particularly within property which is the backbone of many civil based firms.
There are a few disciplines where I have started to see a slow recovery: family, particularly childcare solicitors with panel accreditation, which is heart-breaking if you think why; private client dealing with wills and probate; some areas of litigation such as employment, and commercial and corporate law; well-established Partners with a strong following.
For many firms, the reality is that recruitment is on hold and large amounts of staff are still on furlough. Green shoots, as they say, are slowly starting to emerge, but very slowly.
